Beyond what you have already tried, I would consider replacing the power
supply since both drives stopped reading at the same time. I'm not familiar
with the power consumption of these drives, but, if they have a higher
demand during read functions, the power supply could have weakened and could
be the culprit.
Based on your apparent experience, I assume you have already done virus and
spyware scans to rule out those possibilities. Also, I assume that the
drives are properly identified by the BIOS, device manager and my computer.
I hope this helps.

My Computer has a DVD drive and a CDRW drive working for some time. They
quit reading at the same time. I replaced both drives and cables no luck, I
upgraded the Motherboard and CPU to a faster (P4)cpu, they read once or
twice and stopped, they no longer read. I am using Windows XP professional
OS. The CDRW writes and I can read the files on another system, but I see no
files when I look onn the one they were written on. they do not see data on
disks I purchased either.
I do not know what else to try.
Thank You for your help
