I was surprised to read this, having had a cone or two at the local
Cold Stone Ceamery, so I visited their web site and found this
ingredient list -
http://www.coldstonecreamery.com/images/news/Ice_Cream__Yogurt__Sorbet
_Ingredient_Statements_04June01_341.pdf
and the FAQ page has this statement:
Do Cold Stone Creamery products contain Gluten?
Our Cake Batter Ice Cream is the only ice cream flavor that contains
Gluten. Our frozen yogurt and Italian Sorbets do not contain
glutens. Some mix-ins do have glutens such as brownies, graham
cracker, cookie dough, OreosŪ, Kit KatŪ and any candies that have a
flour component to them. Although we take precautions by cleaning
the mixing stone often, we cannot guarantee that residual products
containing glutens will not accidentally be mixed into your ice
cream. In addition, our caramel and fudge sauces contain oat flour,
which may affect some people.
so I think they have overstated their concern to this listmate, as
well as being overzealous with an ingredient list available on-line -
which means little to trade secrets without a recipe!
I just avoid mix-ins at these places & go for a clean scoop in an OK flavor.
