If it's m 0 c e g you're speaking about, I connected to him via echolink.  You could go to
echolink do a ctrl o and just type in his callsign to get you connected to him.

I use this method and also I have always used explorer mode to make it more friendly to me.  If
you are interested we also have a link which goes out on vhf in Malta and there are plans afoot
to put a repeater on the echolink system soon.  The local link is 9h1ia-l with a dash between
the a and l in the callsign.
