I fell for it. Many others have, too. It's so tempting to believe that all
our health problems can be solved by the GF diet alone. I call it the
gluten myth. I goes something like this:
I can be perfectly healthy eating anything I want as long as it's gluten
free.
I fell for this simplistic line of thinking shortly after I was diagnosed.
No one imposed this belief on me. I developed it in my own fuzzy mind.
Three years ago, I nearly wiped myself out with GF junk food. I actually
became sicker after going GF than I had ever been before in my life! I kept
searching for the hidden source of gluten that was ruining my life. I
eventually learned the hard way that if I want to be healthy I have to
follow a highly nutritious whole food diet, supplement appropriately &
restrain myself from indulging in GF sweets & treats. Oh RATS! You mean I
have to exercise self restraint? I have to be disciplined? Can't someone
else take responsibility for this? Life isn't fair. Whine, whine, whine .
. . . Ha ha! ~Valerie in Tacoma
