I must not understand something very basic. The System Manager/Device Drivers shows the 3C905C NIC integrated chip as being installed and functioning. But the computer doesn't see the connection to my cable modem. My son just took the computer home and tried to setup the cable modem's software on his connection. He got an error message saying the software could not detect a NIC. What am I missing here? How can the system information say it's there and nothing seems to be able to see it.
Another clue: when I do ipconfig /all it shows the connection as a PPP adapter instead of the 3C905C that the NIC is. Isn't that a dialup adapter?
