Do a web search.  The page even shows pictures.  People get them for all
kinds of reasons.  Preemies sometimes get them for ventilator dependence.  People
get them for breathing problems and sometimes after a trauma or surgery if
they are having long term ventilator needs.  It saves trauma to the pharnax and
voice box.
