John, I have a set of Sony mdrcd180 earphones that were rated best buy in
consumers reports about two years ago at this time of year. I got them
through amazon.com for $20. they sound good and are nicely cushioned larger
size over the ear phones that are not too heavy. one other positive feature
is that they come with a heavier than usual 8 foot cord. it's about the same
thickness as a standard line cord which should make them last longer. I have
quit buying expensive earphones because they eventually develop open
connections right at the plug. these Sony phones come with the usual small
stereo plug they all have but they include a quarter inch adaptor. it would
be something to consider.
