I guess I do not have to tell you that that should not happen.
I used the same thing very sucessfully on an AMD 1.7+
with no problems. The fact it is an external modem makes
it even odder...
Have you uninstalled the moden drivers and forced a driver
(clean) re-install?
PS: With the price of DSL falling to less than $15 (in this area),
it might be a good idea to consider that. <?>
