Patrick:
If its a working computer, there is some software that does a good job
of identifying the components in the system. I've been away from the
Windows world for several years, but I do recall using this program: to

If the computer is not working, then one of the following methods may work:
(1) Motherboards and accessory cards have a white rectangular paper
label on them that contains the FCC ID registration number. This number
can be used to identify the original manufacturer by searching at this
site: http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/
(2) For motherboards, try going to the BIOS manufacturer's site using
the BIOS version number (as shown at boot) where you may be able to
cross reference that number to the motherboard manufacturer.
(3) Finally, it may be possible to locate suitable drivers by
identifying the major chip on the device (for motherboards I'd try the
northbridge chip), and going to that manufacturer's site for help.
