Personally, with the SMA connector, I wouldn't put a telescopic antenna on
that, I have one for my old FT-51 with the BNC connector and I'd never think
of putting that on an adapter for SMA, and that's what you'd have to do,
those connectors are just so fradule if not really babied. I had an FT-50RD
for a while, liked the radio but since I don't like yaesu, I sold that. I
kept my FT-51, mainly due to personal reasons I'd rather not get in to on
the list but I'll never get rid of it even if it doesn't work right anymore
and I haven't used it in a year or so, I might get it fixed. I don't
remember much about that radio but if you can get the software and
programming cable for it form RT systems, you'd probably be a lot better
off. That's what I used, it's not that expensive I don't think though I
think it went up a little now that it's on CD. I need to replace my software
come to think, my disk it was on went bad on me.
