I guess it depends on the repair cost and how you need to use the
laptop. It's not too portable if you need to bring a monitor with
you, but it may be fine for desktop use. I needed a backlight
replaced 2 years ago on a Toshiba 420CDS, quoted price was $200.
If you can do it yourself, you can probably pick up the part for
under $50. Could also be a bad power inverter- they seem to run a
little higher. Parts also show up on ebay. Backlight is like a
small flourescent tube, about the size of a pencil. You can find
sites with details how to change it.
