Better late than never...
A correction to my post below:

That part was mis-stated...
I should have said I DISABLED the NIC for testing.
(In Control Panel/Network Connections/right click on NIC.)
That caused Windows to demand an immediate re-activation on next boot,
due to the lost points. --(And other "accumulated" lost points like a different
CD, HD, etc...)
