Earlier in the days of PC's, there was a limit of 256 files/folders at the
top level of a drive.  One partitioned the physical drive into several
logical drives using FDISK to overcome this limitation.  Under the later
versions of Windows, the 256 limit no longer exists.

Now one might partition a drive in order to run more than one operating
system or to have a high-level organization of the drive.

hello all,  just replaced my hd, from 40 gb to 80 gb.left 40 as slave after
copying everything to 80.  upon formatting it said it allocated 31 gb to
FAT32, and balance to NTFS. what is purpose of partitioning the 80 drive? is
it possible to have 80 gb on one drive?
