Son is trying to build a system. Components are as follows:

MB ASUS A7V600-X VIA KT600 (SPECS -
http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7V600&langs=09)
                                                 (AMD recommended mobo for
Athlon XP 2.7/333 cpu)

CPU AMD|2700 /333 ATHLON XP

VGA ROSEWILL RADEON RW9600-128D
http://www.rosewill.com/product/product.aspx?productId=15

ASPIRE X-Infinity Black ATX Mid-Tower Case with 350W Power Supply,
Model"ATXB6KLW-BK/350"

Western Digital 80 drive

512MB PC3200 400MHZ NON-ECC DDR DIMM1 (have also tried a 256 M PC2700
333MHZ)

CD-RW* (was working in previous home)

floppy drive* (but was working previous home)

*recycled from older system

Scenario - minimum components plugged into power - mobo, video, cpu and
floppy, case fans (all components connections have been checked a multitude
of times by him and me. Nothing seems to be awry.)

Turn on power. Case fans begin to turn, CPU fan spins up then everything
stops. Standby power light on mobo remains on. Fans have stopped. There are
no mobo beeps.

I'm stumped. I've built/rebuild several systems as well as repaired systems.
Usually I at least got to a mobo beep sequence that I could use to trouble
shoot. Don't have spare case (ATX format), mobo or CPU for switching and
testing. When parts were ordered I tried to research very carefully that
mobo, cpu, video and memory were compatible. I wouldn't think that the power
supply would be overloaded with such minimal connections but wouldn't bet on
it either. Have looked at replacing power supply but concluded that you can
just buy a new case as cheap.

Have Googled the issue and thoroughly (I think) combed both AMD and Asus on
line FAQS and knowledge bases. No joy.

Any suggestions or enlightenment you can share would be much appreciated.

PS - working on this is sporadic as son works 12 hr shifts (doesn't live
with me - his wife might object <G> and has been working a lot of overtime -
working 60-72 hours a week). Just moving the system to my house for trouble
shooting is problematic as I keep his daughter when he & DIL are working.
And I really can't work well on systems with a very active, precocious 3 yr.
trying to "help" me.
