Do you know the make of your motherboard?  There are several programs like Sandra (from SISOFT???) that will show you the makes of all internal components.  With this info, perhaps a search will provide info on flashing your bios with a version that will recognize the larger hard drive?  I don't know if this is a practical solution or not, others more knowledgable will comment.
