On the other hand - leaving the power cord connected will, in some cases,
allow power to be supplied to the motherboard. I would recommend that you
do disconnect the power cord from the case before installing the memory.
This will insure that you do not have any power at all running through the
motherboard. Everything else can stay connected :)
