Well, I politely beg to differ with you, honey. There are many hormones that are "precursors" to others, but they are hormones, nonetheless. And the insulin issue is also a hormone-based problem, as is estrogen. I am NOT arguing, just discussing. :) And this is probably OT for this list, so I will stop, although hormones SHOULD be an issue when discussing diet, since they drive and direct our whole body.

Cholesterol is used to *make* hormones, it is not a hormone itself. That's like saying a wheel is a car, or a brick is a house. I didn't say it wasn't needed, but over production of cholesterol is an issue. Just the same way that insulin is needed by the human body, but over production is an issue with it.
