Actually, I used to be a cycling coach, and have worked under
Carmichael, and become acquainted with Friel, whose first cycling book
was right on the money on training issues. Let's just say I would
expect nothing more than hogwash from Chris on diet issues, while I'm
very curious to see what Joe has wrapped his head around. I still argue
with masters cyclists with whom I used to work, and encounter now and
then, trying to persuade them to change a bit. Athletes get
tremendously invested in their methods and terrified of changing and
losing any of their performance, and this added to the dominant SAD
paradigm surely makes it difficult to turn them around.
