We have yet to reach it. The worlds population is still growing.

Imagine that the human population has reached its maximum sustainable level.
It only requires the addition of one human to make the population
unsustainable, but conversely it only requires one death to bring it back
into sustainability. The population doesn't have to suddenly drop back to a
low level. An alternative scenario could be an based on highly advanced
agro-industry, and universal education, leading to a sustainable population
at a very high level.

The future is unknown, and may well turn out to be very good.
