I think that it is both. There is discipline involved in the Christian
life, but there should also be joy. I don't think that there is a set
way to do things. The important thing is that you keep the lines of
communication open between you and God through both daily scripture
reading and prayer. You can't expect what works for one person to
necessarily work for another. If that were the case, we wouldn't be very
individual, would we. There is community and there is individual. The
important thing, in my opinion, is that you do something to feed the
relationship and keep it going and deepening or your faith will grow
stale and weak and that won't benefit you and that is certainly not what
God wants.
