JOB POSTING:
Access Centre Co-ordinator

The Students for Barrier-Free Access at the University of Toronto is
currently seeking candidates for the position of Access Centre Co-
ordinator (35 hr/week). The successful candidate will serve as the co-
ordinator of a new Access Centre that has the mandate of focusing on
the non-academic issues faced by student with disabilities at the
University of Toronto. The successful candidate will also have
responsibility for managing the organizational and financial affairs
of the Access Centre, developing and co-ordinating the campaigns and
projects of the Centre, and participating in the University of
Toronto's Ontarians with Disabilities Act planning process and in the
organization of the annual Breaking Down Barriers conferences. The
successful candidate will be a member of, and be accountable to, the
governance Board of the Access Centre.

Duties and responsibilities:
1.      Preparing, writing and editing the Accessibility Guide for
students with disabilities that will be published by the Access
Centre.
2.      Overseeing the creation and maintenance of the Access Centre
website.
3.      Organizing seminars and social groups that are in line with the
goals of the Access Centre.
4.      Managing the finances of the Access Centre.
5.      Promoting the Access Centre and accessibility issues at the
University of Toronto.
6.      Co-ordinating the outreach projects and campaigns of the Access
Centre.
7.      Networking and collaborating with other student-run disability
organizations, both within and outside of the University of Toronto
community.
8.      Participating in the development and monitoring of the University
of Toronto's annual Ontarians with Disabilities Act accessibility
plans.
9.      Assisting Canada-Wide Accessibility for Post-Secondary Students in
its funding and organization of the annual Breaking Down Barriers
conference series.
10.     Assisting in the investigation and development of a peer
mentorship program to be piloted in 2005.
11.     Managing the infrastructure and resources of the Access Centre.
12.     Moderate a virtual online community for people with disabilities
at the University of Toronto.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant must have experience within the disability
movement, be flexible, have a sense of humour and a cheerful
disposition.

The successful applicant must also have:
*       Experience working as part of a management team, or in a leadership
role.
*       Experience in office management.
*       Experience in managing the financial resources of an organization.
*       Proficiency with computers (Windows-based); skill with Microsoft
Office a plus.
*       Skill sets suitable to the moderation of an online discussion
forum.
*       An understanding of the dynamics of an urban university and its
governance; experience with the University of Toronto will be
considered an asset.
*       A strong understanding of the aims and goals of the disability
movement.
*       Strong organizational, time management and planning skills.
*       A demonstrated ability to problem solve and work well under
pressure.
*       Superior oral and written communication skills.
*       An acute ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
*       A College or University education, or equivalent work experience.

Who we are:
The Students for Barrier-Free Access (SFBA) is the student group
representing the interests of students with disabilities at the
University of Toronto. Advocating on their behalf, the SFBA
represents students with disabilities to ensure their needs are heard
and addressed. The Access Centre is a ne
w project of the SFBA, as part of its continuing efforts to outreach
to the University of Toronto community at large, and students with
disabilities specifically. The Centre will not only provide a social
space for students disabilities, but will also provide accessible
computer workstations, a dis
ability resource library, and a series of seminars and workshops on
disability issues.
