I contacted Olive Garden Restaurant regarding what menu items would be
gluten-free and safe to eat. I have attached the reply. It doesn't look like
I'll be eating there anymore. My family used to very much enjoy eating there
pre-celiac dx days. I did respond to Emily and let her know I was forwarding
this information on to this list serve and that there were other restaurants
who were willing to provide this type of information.

As we all know, there is always a risk to eating out . . . but eating at
Olive Garden is not a risk I'm willing to take for my 3-year old daughter
(who also has CD) or myself.

Dear Mary:

We appreciate your desire to know which menu items may fit with the allergen
constraints of your diet. As you know, identifying allergens is a complex
process. This is particularly true when ingredients from our suppliers may
accidentally contain allergens that are not listed on the label. In
addition, at this time our nutritional database does not include the type of
detailed information you need. Due to the complexity of our menu and
multiple ingredient sources, and with the highest regard for your health and
safety, we are unable to guarantee that any of our menu items are completely
free of allergens and safe for you.

Certainly, we empathize with your challenges and decisions regarding dining
out. Often, when it pertains to diagnosing medical reactions, we can
initiate a custom ingredient listing of selected menu items so you and your
physician can make the right choices for your specific needs. If this is a
step you wish to pursue, please have your physician send a written request
directed to the attention of the Guest Relations Manager at our address or
fax number, 407-245-5189.
