Responses regarding an out of town GI:
Can't have easy access for spontaneous visits for less serious issues
It's worth the travel to see the right doctor
Request that the out of town GI establish e-mail contact with you. Keeps
everyone on the same page
Take phone cards with you - all the little calls add up
Schedule follow up appointments while you're still at the out of town
doctor's office
"Grease the wheels" - bring treats from your community for nurses/schedulers
Get a fax machine for receiving test results, sending results from labwork
done by your pediatrician
Responses about Dr. Warren Bishop:
Glowing report for all Iowa City staff
He's been daughter's Dr. for 13 years. Professional, answers all questions,
not warm/cozy, doesn't relate well to daughter but doesn't scare her, either
Responses about a Des Moines peds GI:
My comments: I had heard unflattering feedback about a certain physician
and a listmate responded that her experience with him was not good. We will
not be seeing that physician.
Thanks again for all the insight. I'll post after seeing Dr. Bishop at the
end of June.
