How long do you have to wait after taking it from the freezer before reinstalling it?

I have used this trick many times.
just put the hdrive in an antistatic bag and place in the freezer
for a couple of hours or more.
Doesn't always work, but worth a try:-)
Hooking the drive up as a slave on another system is the
best way to go. If the drive is formated NTFS you will need a system
with XP or Win2K to read it.
