Has this drive worked before and is no longer able to write? If so, then it
could be a failure of the sensor that detects the write protect slider on
the floppy. Otherwise, you may want to check the settings in you BIOS/CMOS
configuration to make sure that the writing to the drive is enabled. Some
BIOS versions allow for write-protection on the floppy.

The problem i am having is i cannot save any work to my floppy drive, i can
access the drive but not save anything. the message:
"word cannot save or create this file,the disk may be full or
write-protected"
keep poping up. this does not seem to be the case as the disks work
perfectly well on my old laptop
