You're talking about modifying a single band 2 meter
rig to operate on 440?? can't be done. You'd just have
to build or buy a transverter. You can put any radio
on the ham bands, they don't have to be type accepted.
Lots of hams run cb's and commercial rigs and military
surplus on the ham bands.
