I wonder what paleo man did about fillings in old age -- oh wait -- they
didn't have old age. They probably just pulled the offending tooth.
I had respiratory problems starting in my teens when I got many amalgam
fillings. I had chronic bronchitus, 5 cases of pneumonia, and flu once or
twice every year. I had all of my 27 amalgam fillings replaced with gold
about 8 years ago. I also had my one root canalled tooth pulled. My MD said
to do it because I was suffering extreme fatigue and had generally bad
health. It cost me personally $10,000 and my dental insurance even more.
Besides eating paleo it was the best thing I ever did for my health. I have
only had 2 colds and one intestinal flu and 1 bronchitus (from extreme
exposure to a bacterium) in the last 8 years. That is a 180* turn around.

I do believe that mercury does leach out from the fillings. Amalgam fillings
eventually crack and need to be replaced because the mercury that holds them
together is gone. Where do you think that mercury goes? Gold fillings are
much more stable. I have not had any trouble with them.
My doctor also said to take a selenium supplement for the rest of my life.
