I googled ddt and saw many articles on both sides of the fence. However, the general statement that struck me most heavily was the statement that the application kills nearly every insect it contacts. Isn't this part of the problem with chemical management of our food supply? Is it good husbandry, agriculture and ,indeed, science to use chemicals that may be targeted at one pest but actually wipe out nearly EVERY organism at the insect (and bacterial?) level where contact is made. Talk about a bozooka to take out a mosquito. I had been an admirer of Crichton's literary endeavors. He seems to be proof in the pudding that an MD degree from Harvard does not necessarily qualify one to pontificate on incredibly complex issues as though he is speaking with biblical authority.
