Hi.

I'm not sure that I agree. At least where their shortwave gear is
concerned, it's pretty well known that their models are just Sangean radios
in a Radio Shack case. Not that Sangean is top of the line, but I had the
same experience with a CD Player that I bought from them, that on closer
inspection was a Pioneer with Radio Shack's name all over it.

What I find more frustrating is some of their strong-arm sales tactics to
sell service plans that sometimes aren't worth the paper they are written
on. And, there is all of the useful things that they used to carry like
electronic parts, connectors and neat little gadgets that have just gone
away. Now, all they want to do is sell cell phones.

By the way, I even miss the coax. Sure, it was crap at VHF frequencies,
but it was certainly adequate to feed a 40 meter dipole.

What I really think is that Radio Shack passed their zenith sometime in the
early 1990's and has been declining as a company ever since, and will
continue to do so because they have lost their niche.

That's my two cents about Radio Shack. And, by the way, even if they were
having trashy electronics made to their specs, they just took a page out
of Walmart's book!
