Does anyone know anything about the communications protocol
used in the Kenwood or Icomm portables?

I had good luck under Linux writing some beginning software to
operate my BC780 scanner I bought last year. A good description of the
protocol for that scanner exists and I have made it do all its tricks
except clone itself to a file. There is a button sequence that lets
one copy the programming of one BC780 to another using a null-modem
cable. I figure one could pump all the data out of the memory in to a
binary file, but I haven't figured that part out yet.

        I would like to have a hand-held 2-meter transceiver that I can
program in a similar manner. My Icomm2AT is darn near dead. Oh, it
works fine if you hold the battery pack just right and don't need to
use the keyboard, but it is about time to retire it as it isn't too
robust any longer when we have public events and I really need to use
it.

        Thanks.
