Hi Butch,
I don't remember my 2000's fan running much of the time;.  Years ago I had a
Kenwood TS 520 and the fan was on if the radio was on.  I left it on for
months at a time and I had that rig for 15 years and it still had the
original fan.  Unless the new fans are not as good as the ones made back in
the 70's.  I hope this helps.  73
