I am assuming you checked all settings to see nothing had "mute" selected.
When I used mics years ago, I noticed there were (at least) two
distinct types available for computer use. One would work (for
me) and the other would not... An analogy would be the way
some "powered speakers" will work with most sound card outputs,
but some "un-powered" speakers would have less chance working...
(Note, Both my mic types were un-powered.)
