Joe,
Once NADD has settled on a presidential candidate, the battle for the
hearts and minds of the Gambian people will begin in ernest, up to the election
period.
The Gambian people will be given ample justification why the NADD
project, presents the best opportunity in which the Gambia can start anew. I am
not interested in personalities, but the document, the MOU, in which the
foundations for a democractic culture becomes more realistic. In seeking to
institute term limits, the MOU, will minimize the tendency in which power can be
personalized, consolidated and monopolized. No single person must be allowed to
be a constant fixture on the psychic of the nation for too long. And, the
fundamental question that a democratic constitution must seek to answer, should
be the nature and relations of a president to the other branches of
government. The separation of powers must be absolute, independent and non-conforming.
