A couple of months ago I posted a concern about eating the grilled chicken
breast at Wendy's. I received a mixture of replys some saying they were able to
eat this with no problem others reporting trouble and lots of suggestions for
other food options and contamination possibilities.
We stayed away from Wendy's until last week when we again checked the web
site which says that the grilled chicken sandwich is gluten free but not the
diced chicken which goes on salads. (it has soy sauce with wheat in it)
Two celiac children ate a burger with no bun and fries and were fine and once
again one celiac child ate the grilled chicken breast and fries and an hour
later started with nausea and 4 hours later the cramping pain and diarrhea.
That went on for 48 hours just like last time.
I saw another post last week about the Wendy's chicken breast so I called the
corporate office to try to get to the bottom of this. They put me in touch
with the district manager here in Kansas City. Turns out we were a test market
for their new chicken breast which has now gone national. ALL CHICKEN
BREASTS AT WENDY'S HAVE SOY SAUCE WITH WHEAT LISTED ON THE INGREDIENT LABEL. He
read me the ingredients from product information he had. I wasn't sure if
the store manager was mixing them up on us but that was not the problem. He was
very apologetic and is meeting with people from the corporate office tomorrow
and will address this issue with them. The web site is in error at this
point and he was not aware of the mistake.
I also took the time to point out that when they reformulated the product
that they reduced our options and how much we rely on accurate information.

That's the end of this mystery;
Debbie in KS
