well, I can see that my position is really unclear here. My deities are daily implored to help
this poor benighted country of mine... the land, and the people whom I love and wish better
for. Like everyone else who attended public school in the 50s, I took in those civics
lessons... so it was a terrible shock to me to grow up and find out that we weren't intended to
take them seriously. My best hope for this continent is that we will survive our adolescence
as a society.... surely people interested in ancient history can accept as a given that this is
not guaranteed.

I would love to see some more serious discussion of the lessons to be learned from the
prehistoric record in social terms... I think that this is even more fascinating than the
question of what they ate.
