I know this wasn't really the thread, but I'm going to chime in with a
serious warning. Do _not_ ever consider this remedy if/when you have to
replace the battery in a PAC Mate QX or BX model (these are the new ones
with the built-in batteries). The PAC Mate battery has a built-in
intelligent chip and if anyone other than FS tries to replace or service the
battery, they'll destroy the device.
Also, note that having any FS hardware product opened by anyone other than
FS will result in the warranty being voided automatically.

Lou,
I know you've already said you don't have a Batteries Plus or Interstate
Battery nearby.
These stores will re-build those battery packs with all new cells for about
$30 vs the $150 that Freedom Scientific will charge to replace it.
They are either double A or sub C cells, depending on the model.
