Harry,
What's the new callsign?
In answer to your question about radios for talking around the world. There
are no handhelds for hf. Backpack, yes and desktop/mobile. You will need to
upgrade to General for meaningful hf privileges. An alternative is the
Echolink or I R L P these use the internet in lieu of radio for links.
Yes many people have handhelds, a mobile/portable radio and desktop
radios. Handi-hams has a frequency chart on their web-site www.handiham.org
At the present time there are no talking frequency meters or swr meters
available. Some Kenwood and ICOM radios have talking frequency readouts. The
ICOM t-90 handheld has morse code frequency read-out, but many blind (and
sighted) hams prefer the Kenwood tf-6a radio, which doesn't have code
readout. If you will e-mail me your telephone number (off-list to
[log in to unmask]) I'll try to provide more details.
