black wire which I need to change the connector to the new one which has a
red, black & blue wire. Do I need to connect the blue wire somewhere - is

Hi,
  The third wire is a tachometer wire, it get used on newer motherboards to
measure the speed of the fan. You can just leave it disconnected if your
motherboard does not have that option.
