Dear PCBUILD Listers,
After 11 months of successful operation my computer system has failed
(starts up, no beeps, no boot). I have tested all parts (except the
motherboard) in other systems to determine that they are good. I also
tested the case/power supply by connecting the rectangular ATX power
connector to the ATX power receptacle in another system and that system
booted properly.
I have a Soltek 75FRN2-L motherboard (socket A, NForce2 Ultra chip set)
and suspect failure of this motherboard is the cause of the system
failure. I removed all DDR memory, the CPU, the video card and
disconnected all drives and powered on the motherboard. The power came
on (no beeps, no boot) but after 20 minutes the system powered down
automatically. I then switched the power on the back of the case from
on to off, then back to on and tried to power up the system again by
pressing the front power on button; the system would not power up. I
then waited for say 10 minutes and tried the front power on button again
and the system powered up.
My question - if nothing is connected to this motherboard (except the
two ATX power connectors) and the system is powered up, will the system
stay powered up until the power is manually removed or will the system
power down automatically, and does this automatic power down indicate a
failing motherboard?
Regards,
Anthony Power
