This is a classic case of how important it is to record the bios settings in
case of battery failure. I kept looking at the settings to see if I could
figure out what had changed. I went into the Advanced settings and noticed
that the Secondary Ide was disabled so I took a chance and set it to Auto
and lo and behold I got the CD-Rom  back on the loop. Today I am going to go
into my main computer and record all the settings so I don't spend
unproductive hours in the future solving unnecessary problems.

Hi, I would check first to see if you've knocked one of the cables loose. It
could well be as simple as that.

I have just replaced a CMOS battery on an AST computer about 7 years old, a
Pentium 133 with Win 98SE on it. I use it as a backup medium for important
files so I can keep working if my new computer gets wonky. Everything is
working the way it was except my CD Rom drive has not been detected. Instead
of showing in the CMOS setting as "Secondary Ide Master 40X CD Rom" there is
nothing there...................................
