Hi Anthony.
Providing that you can properly drive the sensing circuitry of the
auto-tuner at the power level you are running, I think I would go for the
tuner with the higher power capabilities. That might be a pretty big "if"
but consider this. If you ever get a load that is worse than you think it
is and you are running at the hairy edge of what the tuner will handle, you
run the risk of damaging the tuner if it is at a high RF voltage point in
the system. I have always tried to maintain at least a 2 to 1 ratio
between max power that the tuner can handle and what I am actually going to
use just to buy myself a little bit of a safety margin. Thus far, that has
served me well--I've never burned out a tuner in the 25 years I've been on
the air.
