Generally recording speed is a function of the hardware. A firmware upgrade will not make a 2.4x into a 4x. If you think you are going to need the additional speed, buy the best and fastest you can afford, or wait until 4x is old hat and buy it cheap down the line. By then they'll be at 40X. Remember when a 4X CD was really fast?
