Cavemates,
I got my results on my VAT today! Doc wanted to try me on lipitor but I told her I'd try walking and vitamin C first. I will preface the results with the following: Taken from Mercola's website by Brian Vonk, M.D.
Lp(a): LDL + APO(a) = Lp(a)
Artery blockage (plaque) is composed of 90-100% Lp(a) NOT of ordinary cholesterol. Lp(a) is a substitute for ascorbate(Vitamin C). If you are not getting enough Vitamin C to produce collagen for tissue repair, when your arteries become injured they cannot heal properly. If there is inadequate Vitamin C, the next best way to repair arterial injury is to make a Lp(a) plaque to cover the injury. The body needs adequate Vitamin C to heal.
My results are:
Total LDL-C 164 (<130mg/dL)
Total Cholesterol 243
(235 six months ago)
Total Non-HDL Cho 172 (<160mg/dL)
Lp(a) Cho 14.0 (<10.0mg/dL)
Small, Dense LDL A
LDL-R 137 (<100 mg/dL)
Lp(a) 14.0 (<10.0mg/dL)
Homocysteine is 6.4. (<10.4 MICORMOL/L)
CRP is 0.41 (<0.80 MG/DL)
HDL's were superb as were VLDL's
Needless to say I bought some vitamin C and started the therapy. I am not a fruit eater. This is my first VAT test and I will retest in one month to see how it's going. I am also adding walking to my lifting regimen for a meditation session. I HATE aerobics..... Feel free to jump right in here.... Oliva
