Hi,
When I was a novice in the mid 50s I had a friend that used 400 hertz
equipment for all his ham activities. He bought a 400 hertz generator
surplus and coupled it to a regular 120 volt motor. He then could operate
all the surplus equipment with very little, if any, modafication. He had
great equipment at a very low price.
He also did the same with his mobile. For this he put a small gas powered
generator under the hood and used the 400 hertz equipment in the car. It
was interesting to hear the generator keep running after he turn off the
ignition. Those old cars had a lot of room under the hood to play with.
