Someone suggested that I remove my video card, use canned air to blow out the AGP slot and clean the contacts on the card to restore video. I did that and nothing happened: still no video. I have reseated the card upteen times (cleaned slot and contacts), checked the video cable and LCD monitor, both about 4 months old and working fine the day before I moved the guts of my kid's computer from a broken proprietary Gateway box to a new one. I have a feeling the video card got fried when I dropped it contacts down on the metal frame of the old box. I am looking for an nVidia Geforce 2 MX 400 with 32 or 64 Mb memory. I found one for $25 and will likely get that unless someone has one available (that works) for less. Still open to suggestions.
