LAW SCHOOL TEXT BOOKS

Hello everybody,

I thought that you might be interested on a project going on now in Canada.
It is the OLLIS -the On-Line Law Library & Information System- and I just
was introduced to it last May. I quote from the info. package: "The
On-Line Law library & Information System, OLLIS, is a student-driven equity
initiative started by students at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law,
Common Law Section. The aim is to create the first comprehensive, academic
'on-line' collection of law materials required for the study of English and
French Common Law in Canada. This will accord students with a print
disability an equal opportunity to study the law. OLLIS promotes the use of
technology in the study and research of Law across Canada and its future
role in the legal practice.
The OLLIS database service can be accessed via Internet at Homepage
address: <http://OLLIS.uottawa.ca>
The database contains textbooks, casebooks, class-notes, summaries,
handouts, and other materials necessary for the study of law. Material that
is protected by copyright is secured by a system of user-id's and passwords
and access is restricted to students with a print disability. OLLIS has
established a working partnership with the Centre for Special Services at
the University of Ottawa in an effort to introduce this electronic format
system into other disciplines..."

Only in Canada, you say? ...Pity! Seriously, with the right kind of
support,OLLIS could be expanded throughout Canada and likely the USA!

Bye, for now,

                Catalina Colaci

>It has a couple of computers where the blind people can play the text from
>the screen on the special player. This association is extremely interested
