G'day all.
Apologies for the long silence from down under.
I've been clearing the daily digests from my inbox for
the past 12 months, occasionally reading them to see
who's been doing what where, but not getting a chance
to actively participate in the debate.
To paraphrase somebody some of you have been to see
live, "It's been a long year down under."
And indeed, it has. Two divorces in the course of six
months (one marital, the other professional) - both
ending up somewhat acrimoniously. A new relationship
to lose myself in (joy, oh joy), and as of today, a
new job (and career) to experiment with.
I've moved on from the world of consulting
engineering, and have finally taken the plunge to
commit full time to the delights of this passion that
has brought us together. No, I'm not taking on a
professional writing position. Rather, I'm now
leading the architectural conservation division of a
firm called International Conservation Services, based
in Sydney. Initially, my role is to pull together a
disparate range of consulting and specialist
subcontracting services relating to the physical
conservation of heritage buildings, structures and
building materials and finishes, and meld it into a
coherent business group. Longer term ... well, we'll
worry about that next week!
I'm not going to promise to stop lurking immediately,
but it is certainly my ambition to be a little more
active from now on.
Looking forward to hearing from you all again.
Cheers
david west
