I just had an ugly thought.  John, KG7FA, on this list might be thinking along
the same lines as me here.

He got a modem with his MSN DSL service, and the damn thing has a built-in
*non-configurable* firewall.  There goes Echolink, as far as for his
application.  Thankfully, I haven't run across a router that is not
configurable, although the interfaces in some are a bit more speech-friendly.
