I wouldn't know, I've never done that, I took it out of the box, looked and
said "hmmm, top 2 look like speaker mic so must be bottom since it looks a
little different, cover and all" and I plugged it in and went on my way.
When I got mine I had a half charged battery so I actually ran it for about
6 hours programming it by hand before I charged it. I don't think you'd hurt
the jack doing what you did though,  the connector for the charger is a
barrel connector so it's looking for that center pin that's in the charging
jack,  way in you can't reach it in that tiny jack, but it's there to make
the connection, in the mic jack it's only connecting with the outer shell of
the charger connector not completing the circuit so unless you turned it on
that way I'd doubt you did any damage.
