2003 has been a busy year for the assistive technology industry - with an
announcement release or update from the three leading screen reader
developers coming almost every few months. Going into 2004, where does all
this frenetic activity leave users? This week on Main Menu, we are joined
by Martin Roberts, Social Policy Graduate, experienced assistive technology
and beta tester and guru, for an informal look back at the progress of the
three leading screen reading products over the last twelve months. We
attempt to cut through some of the marketing hype and briefly summarise
what's new from each developer as well as explore some of the frequently
asked questions.

Raul Gallegos is along to tell us about the advantages of collecting email
using IMAP as an alternative to POP3.

We recently learned of the untimely passing of a popular Main Menu
contributor, Henry Brugsch. Naturally the thoughts and prayers of countless
Main Menu listeners go out to Henry's family and personal friends. Main
Menu remembers Henry Brugsch by giving listeners another chance to hear both
the 24 April 2002 item concerned with a couple of programmes especially for
HAM radio operators Ilink and EQSO, and the piece from May 2001 describing
the Veronica FM transmitter.

This week, Main Menu will be followed immediately by ACB Reports.

Main Menu is first heard on ACB Radio Mainstream on Wednesday at01:00
Universal, that is Tuesday evening in North America, 8PM Eastern and 5PM
Pacific. Main Menu is then replayed every two hours in order that people
around the world can hear Main Menu at a time which works for them.

Many thanks,
--
